Engineering students, apart from engineers already graduated, arguably will have the most challenges in obtaining engineering jobs after they graduate. There are few new engineering jobs for the engineers already able to work, not to mention the engineering jobs available to graduating students. So what is the solution to what appears to be a tough period for the creation of new engineering jobs? President Obama has made the case for INNOVATION. Perhaps this is the one area in which graduating students can make their mark. Fresh out of school with the latest innovative technology backing them up, unspoiled by engineering dogma, idealistic and full of far reaching vision, new engineers may just be the catalyst the engineering field needs to carry America into the future. “Dare to dream,” we need to reiterate.

However, if new engineers are going to obtain engineering jobs, they need people who can facilitate that process, people who know the employment side of the industry, people who can take engineering resumes and plaster them all over the internet for everyone to see. Here at EngineerNexus.Com we specialize in making certain your engineering resume is seen by as many prospective companies as possible. We are proud to say that we have a spot for every type of engineering resume imaginable. Unlike some websites that only cover a few select fields, EngineerNexus.Com is an equal opportunity engineering resume posting and distribution site. In fact we defy anyone to point out an engineering discipline that we do not make available to engineers. Let us know if we have missed you! After all, how can we be The internet’s Engineer NEXUS if we exclude even one engineering field.

Come and post your engineering resumes and be found. Let us help you realize the dream.

I’m Scott Ritter, Co-Owner of EngineerNexus and also long-time freelance engineering recruiter. I have noticed over the last two months that several sectors of engineering (i.e. Civil, HVAC & MEP, Transportation) that have basically been dormant since the downturn have started to show signs of life. Personally, I have had several of my MEP & Civil design firms contact me with job requisitions over the last 30 days and it is refreshing to get back to doing what I love which is placing rockstar engineers with my ENR Top 500 design firms. So, my message to those who are reading this? Dust off and update that resume man, the drought is almost over!!

Day after day, year after year, going back 40 or more years we have seen the slow deterioration in the number of American manufacturing jobs. As 2011 approaches, and with pundits and politicians saying we may see some small employment improvements, many regular people seriously wonder if America will ever really regain its historic large scale manufacturing job base.

From the perspective of human resources, we have seen what amounts to an unpatriotic sell out of the American worker, a sell out committed by our very own fellow Americans. But patriotism aside (and it seems as though it is), from a business perspective, the sell out made sense. America created the EPA, Unions were demanding better working conditions, wages slowly increased, Government was collecting taxes on all levels, various agencies were putting pressures on business, and the list goes on. In simple English, American manufacturing was being stifled and needed a way out, they needed FREEDOM. But where could American Business find FREEDOM?

Apparently it could not find FREEDOM in the land of the FREE. So why not look for a place were workers were not free (but they sure were cheap) and business had almost total freedom, i.e., none of the restrictions found in America, especially if you greased the right foreign politician’s hand. Hmm, where would American Business go?

Why of course, China! Thanks to President Nixon’s early efforts, and the subsequent birth of the New World Order, and many other deals, American Business was FREE at last – in China! So, returning to the first point: will America ever regain its jobs, especially its manufacturing jobs? This is the question of the week, but in actuality it is the question of the last few decades. If anyone takes a minute to read this little blog post, we sure would love to hear your answers. And then we would like to start posting lots and lots of American jobs here at EngineerNexus.com!

Is the economy getting better or worse? Depending on which news agency you like to watch, there are several opinions (although most of them are pretty negative), concerning the recent state of the economy. Declining home sales and a stubborn unemployment index certainly help to paint a bleaker picture has we prepare to head into fall but that may not be the whole picture. What is the economy like in your area? Let us know… -Scott
